After picking up their first home win of the season on Wednesday night, defeating the Espanola Express 3-1 at the John Rhodes, the Soo Thunderbirds made the trip across the International Bridge on Friday night for a road game against the Soo Eagles.

Both teams headed into Friday night’s contest on two game winning streaks.

The Thunderbirds, who were coming off back to back 3-1 wins against the Espanola Express, extended their winning streak to three games on Saturday night as they defeated the Soo Eagles 3-1 at the Pullar Stadium.

Sophomore forward Nick Smith led the way offensively for the Thunderbirds with his first career two goal game.

St. Augustine, Florida native Braden Robbins had the other goal for the Thunderbirds, which was his first career NOJHL goal.

Kaidan McDonald and Noah Solinger had two assists each for the Thunderbirds while Brendan Miller also got on the scoresheet with one assist.

Brendan Blair had the only tally for the Eagles with assists going to Kyle Quinn and George Orfanos.

Carter McPhail gave up 3 goals on 34 shots in the Eagles loss while Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan product Brandon Gordon made 33 stops for the Thunderbirds victory.

The Thunderbirds will be back at the John Rhodes on Saturday night for the second game of the home and home series against the Soo Eagles at 7:30 p.m.
