Tassone on the move

By Matt Stefano

The Soo Thunderbirds have announced today that they have sent forward Mark Tassone to the OJHL’s Trenton Golden Hawks in exchange for PDF.

Tassone, who spent two seasons with the Thunderbirds, scored 31 goals and 69 points through 102 career games played.

During his rookie season in 2015-2016, the 18 year old helped the Thunderbirds win their second straight Copeland Cup McNamara Trophy title and shared the Fordy Varcoe Award with former teammate Jaren Bellini for the Thunderbirds most sportsmanlike player of the year.

Following his rookie season, the 1999 birth year forward then attended the Soo Greyhounds Rookie Camp in May of 2016, before being invited to the London Knights Training Camp last August.

During the 2016-2017 season, Tassone, as a sophomore, finished fourth in team scoring with 35 points through 52 regular season games played and also suited up for Team NOJHL at the 2016 Eastern Canada Jr. A All-Star Challenge.

In Trenton, Tassone will now be reunited with his former teammate Zach Senecal, who was traded from Thunderbirds during the first week of July in exchange for defenceman Andrew Cordssen-David.
