Thunderbirds sign three

The Soo Thunderbirds have been busy this offseason. On Monday afternoon they welcomed three highly touted local players to their club for the 2018-2019 season.

The team signed forwards  Avery Rebek, Camden Findlay and defenceman Nate Medaglia.

Rebek, who is the son of former Soo Thunderburds assistant coach Jeremy Rebek, led the GNML’s Soo Greyhounds in scoring last season with 19 goals and 33 points in 36 regular season games. During the 2017-2018 regular season, the 18 year old also suited up for 10 games with the Soo Thunderbirds. The Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native stands 6’0 and weighs 160 lbs. His skating ability and knowledge on the ice will certainly provide additional scoring for the club.

Findlay spent last season with the GNML’s Soo Greyhounds, scoring 7 times and setting up 11 others in 36 regular season games. The 16 year old, who stands 5’7 and weighs 170 lbs, also suited up for three games with the Soo Thunderbirds during the 2017-2018 regular season. Cam’s work ethic speaks for itself while his tenacity and play around the net will cause havoc for many players in the league.

Medaglia played defence last year with the OFSAA Finalist and City & NOSSA Champion St. Mary’s Knights hockey team. At 6’3 & 170 lbs, Nate’s a puck moving and good skating defenceman with a lethal shot. He played in 42 games with the Knights last season, scoring 5 goals and assisting on 30 others.

The hockey club is also pleased to announce that Noah Solinger and Nick Smith have committed to attend Brock University next season while playing hockey for the St. Catherine’s Falcons. The Soo Thunderbirds are excited to see both players pursue their education while still getting an opportunity to play for a solid hockey team.

Training Camp for the Soo Thunderbirds will be held from August 21st – 24th at the John Rhodes Community Centre. The team is looking forward to a very competitive camp.
