Thunderbirds vs Beavers Game Preview

Tonight the Soo Thunderbirds will take on their West Division rivals, the Blind River Beavers in Game 3 of the Provenzano Cup, which begins at 7:30 p.m. from the John Rhodes.

The Thunderbirds, who lost two in a row, will take on the Beavers, who enter tonight’s contest on a four-game winning streak.

HEAD TO HEAD

On Friday, September 15th, the Thunderbirds had their home opener against the Beavers and lost to them by a score of 4-3 in overtime.

Assistant captain Kaidan McDonald led the way offensively for the Thunderbirds with a goal and an assist.

Steven Khull scored his first career overtime goal on the power play along with setting up another to lead the Beavers to the victory.

That night, the Beavers also gave the Thunderbirds their first home opener loss since the 2011-2012 season.

In their second meeting against Beavers back on Saturday, October 14th in Blind River, the Thunderbirds skated into the Blind River Community Centre and defeated the Beavers 2-1.

Tyler Malpass scored his 3rd goal of the season that night, which proved to be the game-winner.

Brandon Gordon made 32 saves to earn second star of the game.

Thunderbirds forward Alex Acosta is the latest member of the club to celebrate a birthday, after turning 20 years old yesterday.

FOUR HEADING TO TRENTON

Four members of the Soo Thunderbirds have been named to Team NOJHL for the upcoming Eastern Canada Cup All-Star Challenge, which is being held in Trenton from November 13th-15th.

The four Thunderbirds who have been picked to represent their league are goaltender Brandon Gordon, captain Ryan Mulligan, forward Kaidan McDonald, and associate coach Toots Kovacs.
