Thunderbirds vs Rapids Game Preview

Tonight marks the final game before the Christmas break and the New Year for the Soo Thunderbirds as they will take on the French River Rapids, who will make their first and only appearance of the season to the Soo.

The Thunderbirds, who are currently in first place in the NOJHL’s West Division with 48 points, will take on a Rapids club that is in last place in the NOJHL’s East Division with 24 points.

Heading into tonight’s game, the Thunderbirds have given up the least goals against in the NOJHL (71).

LEAGUE LEADERS

Forward Nick Smith leads the NOJHL in game winning goals (5) and sits tied for first in opening goals of a game (5) and insurance goals (4).

Goaltender Brandon Gordon has the lowest goals against average in the NOJHL at 2.04.

ALUMNI NEWS

Former Soo Thunderbird and current Soo Greyhounds star forward Boris Katchouk has made Team Canada’s roster for the upcoming World Junior Hockey Championship that will take place in Buffalo, New York beginning on Boxing Day.
