10 straight for Sault Ste. Marie

ELLIOT LAKE – The Soo Thunderbirds got goals from six different scorers to help propel them to their 10th consecutive Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League victory Friday after they doubled the Elliot Lake Wildcats 6-3 at Centennial Arena.

The visitors jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period of play on markers supplied by Joey Miller and Joey Ogden.

Sault Ste. Marie then went up 5-1 after the second session on efforts by Brett Jeffries, Anthony Miller and Matt Pinder while Nathan Campbell had one for Elliot Lake.

Alec MacKenzie and Spencer MacLean pulled the Wildcats to within two in the final frame, but the Thunderbirds’ Jaren Bellini added some insurance with seven minutes remaining to round out the scoring.

Mario Culina kicked out 24 of 27 attempts he saw to record the win for the T-Birds.

A.J. Smith saw 30 pucks in a losing cause for Elliot Lake.
