Another Trottier is joining the Bird nest!

The Soo Thunderbirds have announced today that they have signed 2005-birth-year defenceman Ayden Trottier for the 2022-2023 season.

Trottier, who is from Kapuskasing, Ontario, spent last season Great North Under-18 Hockey League’s Kapuskasing Flyers, where he finished third in team scoring with 15 points, including 6 goals and 9 assists in 22 regular season games.

“It’s truly an honour to be able to sign with such an amazing organization who has had great past success,” Trottier said.

Last season, 17-year-old blueliner also suited up for the Thunderbirds final game of their 2021-2022 regular season, which took place back on April 2 in Cochrane.

“Leading up to my first junior hockey game, I was able to spend two weeks with the Thunderbirds and travel with them to Cochrane,” Trottier said. “I was a little nervous when I first hit the ice with them (Thunderbirds), but I knew I had an outstanding team on the ice with me.”

Trottier, who stands 5’10 and weighs 178 pounds, is also the younger brother of current Soo Thunderbirds defenceman Kyle Trottier.

“Ayden was well coached under Sheldon Reasbeck last season in Kapuskasing and to add another member of the Trottier family to our team for the upcoming season is exciting,” said Soo Thunderbirds assistant coach and general manager Jamie Henderson.

“I am looking forward to a terrific year and I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to play with my brother,” Trottier added.
