With the World Junior A Challenge taking place from December 13th-19th in Cobourg and Whitby, Ontario, two members of the Soo Thunderbirds including Caleb Boman and Darian Pilon have been invited to tryout for Team Canada East.
“Today is a great day not only for the Soo Thunderbird program but obviously for the great young players in Caleb and Darian who have worked tremendously hard not only the first 20 or so games but all Summer long,” said T-Birds general manager Jamie Henderson. “Both players have earned this invitation and we know they will go and represent the Thunderbirds and the NOJHL well in attempting to secure a roster spot on Team Canada East.”
T-Birds sophomore defenceman Caleb Boman, who suited up for Team NOJHL in Cornwall, Ontario this month, is currently second amongst league defencemen in scoring with 25 points through 21 games.
“I’m really excited to showcase myself and prove a spot on the roster,” said Boman. “I can bring a simple but solid two way game with a winning attitude.”
Rookie forward Darian Pilon, who was just one of two 1998 birth year players to play for Team NOJHL this month at the Eastern Canada Junior A Challenge, currently leads the T-Birds in points with 26 through 21 games.
“It’s such a great honour to be able to represent Sault in such a positive way,” said Pilon. “I think I can bring to the team some energy in the way I play, I cause havoc on the ice and I’ve been told it drives teams crazy, so I’ll just have to work extra hard, keep my game simple and just do the little things right.”
