Brown leads Canadians past Thunderbirds

After dropping a 7-3 decision to the Rayside Balfour Canadians back on Sunday night in Chelmsford, the Soo Thunderbirds were back on John Rhodes ice on Saturday night for their second straight meeting against the exact same team.

The Canadians, who entered Saturday night’s game on an eleven-game winning streak, also came in as the highest scoring team in the West Division with 231 goals.

The Thunderbirds entered Saturday night’s game as the second highest scoring team in the West with 200 goals.

The Soo surrendered seven goals for the second straight game on Saturday night as they fell by a score of 7-1 to the Rayside Balfour Canadians at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

Forward Gavin Brown led the way offensively for the Canadians with three helpers.

Sudbury Wolves 2018 fourteenth round pick Giordano Biondi had two goals for the Canadians while Matthew Belanger, Mitchell Martin, Brett Jacklin and Nicholas DeGrazia all had a goal and an assist each.

Defenceman Gregory Arnburg also got on the scoresheet with a power play marker for the Canadians.

Samuel Vachon had a multi point night for the Canadians with two assists while Zachary Hauseman and Dylan Bertrand set up a goal each.

Soo Greyhounds 2019 eleventh round pick Tyler Savard had the only goal for the Thunderbirds while defenceman Tristan Cicchello and added player Michael Chaffay had an assist each.

Thunderbirds goaltender Sam Evola gave up 3 goals on 13 shots before being replaced in net by Dakota Meyer, who then gave up 4 goals on 19 shots the rest of the way.

Canadians goaltender and Sudbury Wolves 2016 thirteenth round pick David Bowen made eleven saves for the victory.

The Thunderbirds will be right back in action on Sunday afternoon, when they hit the road to Blind River for an matinee matchup against the Beavers.

Puck drop is set for 2:00 p.m. at the Blind River Community Centre.
