Bugeja gets traded to Voodoos

By Matt Stefano

The Soo Thunderbirds have announced today that they have traded 2001-birth-year-goaltender Alex Bugeja to the Powassan Voodoos in exchange for a player development fee.

Last season with the Thunderbirds, the West Vancouver, British Columbia native had 9 wins, 2 losses, 2 shootout losses, a 2.37 goals against average and a league-best .936 save percentage.

Bugeja was also named the Thunderbirds top goaltender during the COVID Cup series against the Blind River Beavers in March, and was the recipient of the Soo Greyhound Award as the Thunderbirds Most Valuable Player for 2020-2021.

This past season, Bugeja also became the first goaltender to win the Thunderbirds Most Valuable Player Award since Joel Horodziejczyk did back in 2014.
