Emmerson scores twice in win over Express

After scoring his first career NOJHL goal, which proved to be the game winner back on Sunday night in a 5-4 win over Rayside Balfour, T-Birds overage forward Sean Emmerson found the back of the net twice on Wednesday night to help the Soo to a 5-1 victory over the Espanola Express at the Essar Centre.

“It feels really good, we played an all around good game and my line-mates were helping me out there. We were flying and we built off last game which was really good,” said Emmerson.

During Wednesday night’s game, the T-Birds outshot the Express 47-26 overall.

“Their goalie was playing really well tonight and all season. I’ve got a couple of good passes and just went with the flow,” continued Emmerson.

Emmerson’s two goal night was not only his first NOJHL multi goal game, but they were also his first goals scored on home ice.

“I kind of got lucky on that second one, the first one I just stuck with the puck and just kept going and it went in,” said the Edmonton, Alberta product.

Since coming over to the T-Birds as a free agent earlier this month, Emmerson now has 3 goals and 2 assists through 5 games played.

“The guys are awesome, they welcomed me with open arms. It’s a very good organization and very classy. Just confidence is key for my game and everybody here wants to win, so we all got one goal,” concluded Emmerson.

Keenan Eddy chipped in with a goal and an assist for the T-Birds win while Austin Kozluk also had a two point night with a pair of assists.

Nick Smith and Zach Senecal had the other goals for the Soo while Jake Reed, Jake Behse, Matt Caruso, Alec Allen, Ryan Waterhouse and Noah Solinger all chipped in with an assist each.

Blake Cudmore had the only goal for the Express with assists going to Aaron Roschinsky and Cameron Anklewich.

Express goalie Logan Sawka gave up 5 goals on 47 shots in the loss while Dougie Newhouse made 25 saves for the T-Birds victory.

The T-Birds will now play their final game for the month of January, this Sunday, January 29th against the Elliot Lake Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. from the Essar Centre.

All Minor and Peewee hockey players both male and female can enter the game for free if they wear their team jersey or jacket!
