The Soo Thunderbirds wrapped up a busy three-game road trip on Sunday afternoon as they were in Timmins to take on the Rock at McIntyre Arena.

After earning their first victory of the season Saturday night in Cochrane and improving their record to 1-1, the Thunderbirds were hoping conclude their road trip with a win and return home above the .500 mark.

A goal by Nick Smith from Noah Solinger and Ryan Mulligan at the 7:24 mark of the second period proved to be the game winner, as the Thunderbirds blanked the Timmins Rock 1-0 and have improved their record to 2-1.

Eric Jackson gave up 1 goal on 22 shots in the loss for Timmins while Thunderbirds goaltender Brandon Gordon made 26 saves for his 10th career shutout.

Gordon, who was named third star of the game, also recorded his 40th career win.

The Thunderbirds will now get set for their home opener on Friday, September 15th as they will take on 2017 NOJHL Coach of the Year Kyle Brick and his Blind River Beavers.

Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the John Rhodes Community Centre.
