It’s been three years since a forward on the Soo Thunderbirds recorded a hat trick in a playoff game.
But on Wednesday night in Sudbury, Noah Boman was the next one to do so!
Forward Noah Boman recorded his first NOJHL hat trick on Wednesday night to help lead the Thunderbirds to a 6-1 win over the Rayside Balfour Canadians in game 3 of the West Division Final series.
Boman also became the first Thunderbird forward to record a hat trick in a playoff game since Matt Caruso did back on March 19th, 2016.
Two of Boman’s goals were also scored on the power play as the Thunderbirds went two for nine on the man advantage while going a perfect five for five on the penalty kill.
Niagara IceDogs prospect Lucas Theriault set up three goals for the victory while Spencer Van Tiem and Nick Smith also had multi point nights for the Thunderbirds, setting up two goals each.
Captain Kaidan McDonald had a goal and an assist for the Soo while Brendan Miller (game winner) and Tyler Malpass had a goal each.
Tanner Mayne, Ryan Lawrence, Matthew Bazarin and Colin Ahern all got on the scoresheet with one assist each.
Ethan Lavallee scored the lone goal for the Canadians with assists going to Kyle Liinamaa and Giordano Biondi.
Canadians netminder David Bowen gave up four goals on twenty five shots before being replaced in net by Sebastien Plamondon, who then gave up two goals on nineteen shots the rest of the way.
Thunderbirds netminder Colin Ahern made thirty saves for the victory.
The Thunderbirds, who now lead the West Division Final series 2-1, will be back in action for game 4 tonight in Sudbury, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Chelmsford Arena.
