On Wednesday evening, the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced its award recipients for the 2022-2023 season.

And the list of this year’s award recipients saw one Soo Thunderbird player take home an honour.

This year, Soo Thunderbirds forward Dharan Cap was named the recipient of the Mitch Tetreault Memorial Trophy as the league’s Top Defensive Forward.

“It feels great to be acknowledged with an award for part of my game that I pride myself on,” Cap said. “I’d also like to thank my teammates and my coaches for the help and support they’ve provided all year round.”

In 55 games played this season, Cap recorded 30 goals, 38 assists and 68 points.

Cap, who was named this year’s NOJHL’s Top Defensive Forward, became just the third player in T-Birds history to win this award, joining Jake Wright (2010-2011) and two-time winner Brett Jeffries (2014-2015 & 2015-2016).
