Jeffries’ 4 paces Thunderbirds past Beavers

SAULT STE. MARIE – Brett Jeffries scored four times to help lead the Soo Thunderbirds to a 7-3 victory over the Blind River Beavers Tuesday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at Essar Centre.

It was all Jeffires in the opening period as he notched a natural hat trick to stake the Thunderbirds to a 3-0 cushion after one with his 12th, 13th and 14th goals of the season.

Jaren Bellini then extended the Sault Ste. Marie lead 4:23 into the middle stanza.

Blind River battled back with power play markers from Chris Ordoobadi and Regan Yew to make it a 4-2 game after 40 minutes.

Devin Shell put the T-Birds back up by three, five and a half minutes into the third, only to see Yew add another for the Beavers during a man advantage opportunity at 8:13.

Jeffries’ fourth of the night and 15th of the campaign made it 6-3 with 6:40 remaining while Boris Katchouk finished things off for the Thunderbirds 57 seconds later.

Matt Pinder assisted on the first three Jeffries’ tallies while Owen Headrick added a pair of helpers in his return to the Soo line-up following a lengthy absence due to an upper body injury.

Connor Dea and Nicolas Sicoly also chipped in with two assists for the winners as did Nathan Hans for Blind River.

Mario Culina made 23 stops to register the decision for the Thunderbirds with Zach Mills facing 38 pucks in defeat for the Beavers.
