Maulucci leads Express past Thunderbirds

After dropping a 3-2 decision to the Rayside Balfour Canadians on Friday night in the Soo, the Soo Thunderbirds were back in action just twenty four hours later on Saturday night as they made a trip to Espanola to take on the Express.

The Thunderbirds dropped their second straight game on Saturday night as they fell by a score of 4-2 to the Espanola Express at the Espanola Regional Recreation Complex.

Forward Avery Rebek led the way offensively for the Soo, scoring once and assisting on another.

Rookie forward Jake Kovacs had the other goal for the Soo while Tristan Cicchello and Nolan Ford both got on the scoresheet with one assist each.

Express rookie defenceman Robbie Maulucci led the way offensively for his club, setting up two goals for his first career multi point game.

Tyler Nelson, Diego Pasula, Matias Salem and Josh Boucher had the goals for Espanola while Cole Delarosbil, Robert Brisson, Cameron Walker, A. J. Favot and Zach Trempner all had one assist each.

Thunderbirds rookie netminder Dakota Meyer gave up 4 goals on 25 shots in the loss while Express goaltender Andrew Rocha earned first star of the game, making 28 saves for the victory.

The Soo will now play their final game of the month of October on Wednesday night against the last place Elliot Lake Wildcats.

Puck drop is 7:00 p.m. at the John Rhodes Community Centre.
