The Great North Under-18 Hockey League has announced on Tuesday its league award winners for the 2021-2022 season, and three of this year’s winners were players from the Soo Jr. Greyhounds.

The three Jr. Greyhounds who took home league hardware this year, were forward Lincoln Moore, defeceman Austin Fellinger and goaltender Charlie Burns.

LINCOLN MOORE

After leading the Great North Under-18 Hockey League in scoring during the regular season with 37 points in 24 games, Soo Jr. Greyhounds forward Lincoln Moore was the winner three league awards this year, including the league’s top forward, the league’s most valuable player and was also named to the league’s 2021-2022 all-star team.

The 16-year-old forward also suited up for four games with the Soo Thunderbirds during the 2021-2022 regular season where he recorded 2 assists.

“Lincoln had a great season, he really committed himself off the ice and it also showed on the ice,” said Soo Jr. Greyhounds head coach Jamie Henderson, who also serves as the assistant coach and general manager of the Soo Thunderbirds. “It was also great to get him into some junior A games during the regular season with the Soo Thunderbirds.”

AUSTIN FELLINGER

After leading all Great North Under-18 Hockey League defencemen in scoring during the regular season with 19 points in 24 games, Soo Jr. Greyhounds defenceman Austin Fellinger was named to the 2021-2022 Great North Under-18 Hockey League all-star team.

Fellinger, who is a 2021 eleventh round pick of the Ontario Hockey League’s Soo Greyhounds, also suited up for one game with the Soo Thunderbirds during the 2021-2022 regular season.

“Austin really got outside of his comfort zone I’d say midway through the season and he really flourished at both ends of the ice,” Henderson said.

CHARLIE BURNS

After posting a 1.52 goals against average and 2 shutouts through 11 games played, Soo Jr. Greyhounds goaltender Charlie Burns was the recipient of two league awards this year, including the league’s under-16 most valuable player and the league’s top under-16 goaltender.

The 16-year-old also suited up as an affiliate backup goaltender with the Soo Thunderbirds during the 2021-2022 regular season.

“Charlie was outstanding all season,” Henderson said. “He was nearly unbeatable and we are excited both as the under-18 program and the Soo Thunderbirds to see his career unfold and where he gets selected this weekend in the OHL Draft.”
