Nickel Barons 9th, Trappers Honourable Mention in opening CJHL Top 20 rankings of 2012-13

The Canadian Junior Hockey League, in conjunction with NHL Central Scouting, announced Monday their opening Top 20 rankings of the 2012-13 season.

Representing the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League on the listings is two clubs with the Sudbury Nickel Barons being tabbed 9th overall while the North Bay Trappers earned honourable mention laurels.

Both clubs are unbeaten early in the season with Sudbury registering a league-best 5-0-0 record while second place North Bay is close behind at 4-0-1 fresh off a victory Sunday over the reigning NOJHL and Dudley-Hewitt Cup champion Soo Thunderbirds.

The defending Royal Bank Cup champion Penticton Vees of the BCHL were the top rated CJHL side in the initial rankings.

The rankings are based upon a variety of factors, which includes the league in which the teams belong to, this season’s results in regular season, last season’s playoffs, as well as initial recruiting efforts for the 2012-13 campaign.

The CJHL is an amalgamation of the 10 Junior A hockey leagues from across Canada.
