NOJHL announces  Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that forwards Brayden Stortz of the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners, Darian Pilon of the Soo Thunderbirds and David Osborne of the Iroquois Falls Eskis have been named the Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the week for the period ending Nov. 1.

BRAYDEN STORTZ, (F) KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS – The 19-year-old from Welland, Ont., helped the Gold Miners pick up three of a possible four points in two games last week.

Stortz began by playing a role in each of the three goals his side scored in a hard-fought 3-3 double overtime road draw against the Cochrane Crunch Thursday as he tallied twice and assisted on the other.

Then Sunday evening he collected his team-leading 14th marker of the season helping Kirkland Lake hand the Powassan Voodoos their first loss of the season in a 3-1 triumph at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

Stortz is averaging nearly two points-per-game to pace the Gold Miners offensively with 32 in 17 appearances.

His efforts also tie him for fourth overall in NOJHL scoring.

DARIAN PILON, (F) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – Surging Sault Ste. Marie took to the ice once last weekend and the Thunderbirds skated to their 10th straight victory as they shutout visiting Elliot Lake 6-0.

First-year forward Darian Pilon tallied twice in the game and also dished out an assist for a three-point night.

Currently riding a five-game point streak, the 17-year-old local product has 19 points in his first 15 NOJHL contests sits tied for second spot on his club in scoring.

DAVID OSBORNE, (F), IROQUOIS FALLS ESKIS – In the Eskis lone contest this past week, the 19-year-old Nanaimo, B.C. native dished out a pair of assists helping the Eskis skate to their second road of the season.

Osborne, who leads Iroquois Falls in goals this season with 10, also sits second on the club in offensive production averaging over a point-per-game with 22 in 18 outings.

He’s also riding a four-game point streak and has gotten on the score sheet in seven of his past eight games.
