NOJHL announces Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that a trio of players, who helped their respective clubs go unbeaten last week, have been named the Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the week for the period wrapping up Oct. 26.

Earning Eastlink TV 3 Stars laurels this week are Kirkland Lake Gold Miners goaltender Josh Erickson, Soo Thunderbirds forward Joey Ogden and Sudbury Nickel Barons forward Jimmy Roy.

JOSH ERICKSON, (G) KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS – In two starts last week the 20-year-old netminder from Woodbury, Minn., won both of them helping the Gold Miners extend a winning streak to six consecutive outings while also maintaining a share of top spot in the NOJHL standings.

Erickson began with a 22-save shutout over Mattawa Friday and followed that with another 22 stops as Kirkland Lake defeated Cochrane Saturday.

He is 5-0 since joining the Gold Miners and currently leads all NOJHL stoppers in both goals-against average and save percentage at 2.00 and .929 respectively.

JOEY OGDEN, (F) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – The 17-year-old, who hails from Detroit, Mich., registered his first five points for his new club helping the Thunderbirds earn a couple of away victories while helping his side run a consecutive game win streak to 11.

He began by scoring once and then setting up the game-winner as Sault Ste. Marie skated pasted Elliot Lake Friday night at Centennial Arena.

The following evening Ogden added another goal and dished out a pair of assists as the Thunderbirds skated to a road triumph at Blind River.

JIMMY ROY, (F) SUDBURY NICKEL BARONS – A model of consistency the 20-year-old Roy scored in each of Sudbury’s two games last week as the Nickel Barons stayed in the hunt for first overall in the NOJHL standings, just two points in arrears of Kirkland Lake and division rival Sault Ste. Marie.

The Sudbury product had a tally and earned an assist on another as the Nickel Barons defeated Cochrane this past Wednesday.

Sunday afternoon he added a power play marker in a road win at Blind River.

His eight goals so far this season lead Sudbury while his three game-winners top the team and rank him second overall among all NOJHL skaters in that category

Roy is well on pace to top his offensive totals from last season when he scored 14 times and doled out 12 helpers for 26 points.
