NOJHL announces Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced today that Mattawa Blackhawks defenceman Nick Grose, Soo Thunderbirds forward Anthony Miller and Abitibi Eskimos goaltender Logan Ferrington have been named the Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the week for the period ending Jan. 4.

NICK GROSE, (D) MATTAWA BLACKHAWKS – In two outings this past week the Blackhawks blueliner was instrumental in helping Mattawa skate to back-to-back road victories.

The 19-year-old Fairfax, Virginia native began by scoring his first two goals of the season Friday in a 4-3 overtime triumph over the Soo Thunderbirds.

The following night Grose dished out three assists as the Blackhawks topped Blind River 6-3.

His 23 points in 32 games leads all Mattawa defenceman in offensive production.

ANTHONY MILLER, (F) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – The veteran Sault Ste. Marie forward picked up four points in two games last week helping his hometown Thunderbirds move into sole possession of top spot in the overall NOJHL standings.

Miller began with an assist in an overtime defeat to Mattawa and followed that up with a hat trick in big 5-2 road win Sunday evening in Elliot Lake.

The three-goal night was his first of the season and his 10th multi-point game of the 2014-15 campaign.

Miller is averaging a point-per-game for the T-Birds with 30 in 28 outings.

LOGAN FERRINGTON, (G) – ABITIBI ESKIMOS – The newly acquired Abitibi netminder was impressive in his NOJHL debut Saturday making 29 saves in an Eskimos victory over the Powassan Voodoos.

The 19-year-old London, Ont., product was picked up by Abitibi from the London Nationals of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.

In 11 appearances with the Nationals, Ferrington posted a solid 1.43 goals-against average and .943 save percentage with one shutout.
