NOJHL announces Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week
SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Brennan Roy of the Abitibi Eskimos, Nicolas Sicoly of the Soo Thunderbirds and the Powassan Voodoos’ Steve Harland have been named the Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the week for the period ending Feb. 22.
BRENNAN ROY, (F) – ABITIBI ESKIMOS – The defenceman, who has made the move to forward for Abitibi, had a big weekend helping the Eskimos post a pair of impressive victories.
The 18-year-old from Iroquois Falls started off his week by scoring once and setting up three others in his club’s 7-3 triumph at Cochrane Friday night.
The next evening Roy notched another tally and added two assists as Abitibi picked up a 4-3 win over visiting Elliot Lake at Jus Jordan Arena.
On the season Roy has amassed 70 points, including 29 markers, to sit third on the team and fifth overall in NOJHL offensive production.
NICOLAS SICOLY, (F) – SOO THUNDERBIRDS – As a rookie skating for his hometown side in Sault Ste. Marie, the 17-year-old Sicoly is averaging over a point-per-game for the Thunderbirds.
He added to his totals picking up points in each of his squad’s three victories last week.
The Soo forward started off by assisting twice, including help set-up the game-winner, as the T-Birds blanked Sudbury 5-0.
Heading out on the road Saturday, Sicoly scored once in a 5-2 decision Saturday at Powassan.
Sunday he tacked on two more helpers as the Thunderbirds dropped the Voodoos 6-1.
He also raised his season point total to 49 in 45 outings.
STEVE HARLAND, (F) POWASSAN VOODOOS – The first-year phenomenon was recognized for his notable run during the course of a 31-game consecutive point streak that drew to a close Sunday afternoon in a setback vs. league-leading Sault Ste. Marie.
During the course of his streak the 18-year-old from Scarborough, Ont., racked up 71 points on 34 goals and 37 assists going nearly four months since previously being held pointless back on Oct. 31.
Included in his efforts was a stretch in which he tallied in nine straight outings and another where he scored in seven straight match-ups.
Harland also had multi-point nights in 23 of the 31 games during the streak and currently leads all rookies in the entire 129-team Canadian Junior Hockey League in point-per-game average at 1.83.
The Powassan standout also sits third in NOJHL scoring with 86 points with his 42 tallies tying him for the second most in the league. He is also knotted for second in assists with 44.
