NOJHL NCAA commitment list grows

SUDBURY – The list of Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League players committing to NCAA programs in the U.S. continues to grow.

The Northland College Lumberjacks of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association have recruited a pair of NOJHLers to attend the Ashland, Wis.,-based school starting in the fall.

Heading to Northland are Elliot Lake Wildcats goaltender A.J. Smith along with Cochrane Crunch defenceman Max Glashauser.

Smith has had a stellar season with the first-year Wildcats posting a solid 20-9-2 record with a 2.76 goals-against average and .915 save percentage. He also registered three shutouts.

He has also been strong in the playoffs to date registering a 4-3 mark  helping Elliot Lake advance the West Division final against the Soo Thunderbirds heading into Game 2 of that best-of-seven series at Centennial Arena.

As for Glashauser, he has helped shore up the Cochrane defensive corps as they get set to take on the Powassan Voodoos in their East Division final that begins tonight at the Tim Horton Event Centre.

Serving as the Crunch captain Glashauser led all blueliners on the team with 24 points in 46 outings.

He also has three assists in his first six postseason contests.

The Lumberjacks also got a commitment from Cochrane forward Henry Berger earlier this season.

Meanwhile the Mattawa Blackhawks have two of their players heading to the NCAA ranks.

Forwards Tyler Brodersen and Jimmy Philbin are off to St. Olaf College and Morrisville State University respectively.

In his 2014-15 campaign Philbin paced Mattawa offensively scoring 19 times and doling out 29 assists for 48 points in 51 games for the Blackhawks.

Brodersen was second on the Blackhawks in points with 47 in 51 outings as he notched a team-high 21 tallies and set-up 26 others.
