Power play goals lift Beavers past Thunderbirds

After defeating the Espanola Express by a score of 3-1 this past Sunday night in Sault Ste. Marie and improving their record to 2-0, the Soo Thunderbirds were in Blind River on Friday the 13th for their first road game of their 2019-2020 regular season.

The Thunderbirds, who were minus forwards Nick Smith and Tyler Savard due to suspensions, fell by a score of 4-1 on Friday night to the Blind River Beavers at the Blind River Community Centre.

Caleb Serre had a pair of goals, including one on the power play along with adding two helpers while Sooite Justin Mauro also had a four point night for the Beavers, setting up four goals.

Lucas Adams scored a pair of power play goals in the win for the Beavers while Jake Behnen and Devon Sevignac both chipped in with one assist each.

Thunderbirds rookie forward Stephen Pszeniczny notched his first NOJHL goal with Daniel Bazarin picking up the lone assist.

Beavers goaltender Wyatt Courchaine made 30 stops for the victory while Thunderbirds netminder Colin Ahern gave up 4 goals on 32 shots in the loss.

The Thunderbirds (2-1) will be back on John Rhodes ice on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. to in a rematch against the Beavers (3-0).
