After snapping their six game losing streak, thanks to an 8-2 victory over the Blind River Beavers on Friday night at the John Rhodes, the Soo Thunderbirds were back in action for their third game in three nights on Saturday night as they took on the Espanola Express.
The Thunderbirds lost to the Espanola Express for the first time in franchise history on Saturday night as they fell by a score of 5-2 at the John Rhodes Community Centre.
Tyler Dunbar and Avery Rebek had the goals for the Soo while Cam Findlay, Warner Young, Tyler Savard and Matthew Bazarin all chipped in with one assist each.
Express captain Matias Salem led the way offensively with three helpers on the night.
Diego Pasula scored twice for the Express, including once on the power play while Cole Delarosbil also had a two point night with a goal and an assist.
Alex Simard and Zach Trempner had the other goals for the Express while Jakob Fahey, Cameron Walker, Josh Boucher, Collin McGuire and Dylan Labelle all had an assist each.
Thunderbirds netminder Colin Ahern gave up 5 goals on 37 shots in the loss while Express goaltender Joel Rainville made 33 saves for the victory.
The Thunderbirds will now get set for the NOJHL Showcase Tournament, which will take place from October 15th-16th at the Big Bear Arena in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
