Serre leads Beavers past Thunderbirds

After blanking the Blind River Beavers by a score of 4-0 on Friday night in the Soo and extending their winning streak to six games, the Soo Thunderbirds were right back in action just twenty four hours later in Blind River, for the second game of the home and home series against the Beavers.

The game in Blind River was a different story on Saturday night though, as the Beavers found the back of the net six times to go on to a 6-3 victory over the Thunderbirds at the Blind River Community Centre.

Beavers captain and NOJHL’s top scorer Caleb Serre led the way offensively with three goals and one assist while added player Noah Minns also had a big night offensively, scoring once and setting up two others.

Beavers forward Kyle Quinn had a power play goal and an assist while rookie Devon Savignac also got on the scoresheet with one goal.

Defenceman Nathan Balkwill set up three goals for the Beavers while forward Lucas Adams also chipped in with two assists.

Jake Behnen, Ethan Graham and Caleb Minns all had one assist each for the Beavers.

Thunderbirds assistant captain Cam Findlay had a goal and an assist while Rylan Clemons and Brock Santa Maria had a goal each.

Phoenix, Arizona native Will Josephson set up two goals for the Soo while Jake Kovacs, Warner Young and Tyler Savard all had one assist each.

Beavers goaltender Jackson Hjelle made 30 saves for the victory while Thunderbirds rookie netminder Sam Evola gave up 6 goals on 44 shots in the loss.

The Thunderbirds, who have now had their six game winning snapped in Blind River, will look to get back on the winning track on Saturday, February 8th, when they visit Elliot Lake to take on the last place Wildcats.

Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. at Centennial Arena.
