Soo stops Blind River

SAULT STE. MARIE – Joey Ogden had a pair of goals and set-up one more to lead lift the Soo Thunderbirds to a 6-1 triumph over the Blind River Beavers in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Friday evening at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

Regan Yew staked Blind River to an early lead as he scored for a second straight game as he finished off the feed from Chris Hrabec at 8:19.

The edge did not last long however as the Thunderbirds notched the equalizer just 27 seconds later as Ogden beat Beavers’ starter Daniel Potter.

Sault Ste. Marie took control in the middle session tacking on a trio of tallies to go up 4-1 after 40 minutes.

Nicolas Tassone slid home the eventual game-winner early in the middle session before Jaren Bellini and Ogden added later efforts in the frame.

The T-Birds then put it away in the third on efforts from Matthew Mitchell and Boris Katchouk to round out the scoring.

Joey Miller dished out a pair of assists for the winners giving him 20 helpers on the season.

Mario Culina faced 13 shots in picking up the victory for the Thunderbirds.

Potter was peppered with 44 pucks in defeat allowing six against while Zach Mills stopped all eight attempts he encountered 10 minutes of relief in the third.
