Soo Thunderbirds start regular season September 8th

The Soo Thunderbirds have announced their 2017-2018 regular season schedule and for the first time since 2009-2010, the club will open up their regular season on the road.

The four-time defending West Division champions will kick off their 19th season on Friday, September 8th in Hearst to take on the NOJHL’s newest franchise, the Hearst Lumberjacks at 7:00 p.m. from the Claude LaRose Arena.

The Soo will then make stops in Cochrane on September 9th and Timmins on September 10th.

After rounding out a three-game road trip to start the regular season, the Thunderbirds will then return to their home, the John Rhodes Community Centre, for their home opener on Friday, September 15th at 7:30 p.m. against 2017 NOJHL coach of the year Kyle Brick and his Blind River Beavers.

The Thunderbirds, who will play 27 home games and 27 road games, will also take part in the NOJHL Showcase at Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex in Sudbury.

The complete NOJHL Showcase schedule will be announced later and will count towards regular season standings.

The Soo Thunderbirds will be hosting a Futures Camp at the John Rhodes Community Centre from July 28-30 and will feature many instructors, including current Edmonton Oilers defenceman and former Soo Greyhounds captain Darnell Nurse, as well as former Soo Thunderbirds defenceman and current Erie Otter Owen Headrick and former OHLer Victor Tererri.
