Soo too much for Blind River

BLIND RIVER – The Soo Thunderbirds scored on the first shift of the game and eventually had a six-point night from Jaren Bellini and five more from Boris Katchouk to help lead them to a 10-0 triumph over the Blind River Beavers Wednesday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at the Blind River Community Centre.

Brett Jeffries slammed home his 17th goal of the season 33 seconds into the contest to send the Thunderbirds on their way.

Sault Ste. Marie went up a pair late in the opening stanza as Owen Headrick connected on the power play at 19:50 of the period.

The visitors took total control in the middle stanza thanks in part to the Bellini show as the Thunderbirds forward tallied twice and set-up two others to put them up by a half dozen heading into the final frame.

Katchouk had one of the other markers and also doled out assist on both of Bellini’s goals while Caleb Bowman, on the power play, accounted for the fourth effort of the stanza.

Bellini completed his hat trick five minutes into the third to extend the Soo cushion.

The Soo then finished things off with a man advantage marker from Connor Dea, Jeffries second even strength effort and Bellini helped set-up one final goal off the stick of Nicolas Sicoly in the waning moments to complete the romp.

Katchouk finished the night with four assists to go along with his goal while Bellini, Bowman, Eric Hillock and Matt Busby had two helpers apiece in the one-sided decision.

Mario Culina made 16 saves to record his third shutout of the season, which ties him for the league lead in that department.

Braddock Baalerud and Zach Mills both saw time in the Beavers net in defeat as they were peppered and faced 62 shots in defeat.
