The Soo Thunderbirds Junior A hockey club has announced on Monday that they have acquired 1997 birth year forward Adam McPhail.
The Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario product, who stands 6’1 and 195 lbs, scored once and set up another through eight games this season with the OJHL’s Lindsay Muskies.
McPhail, who was also selected by the Saginaw Spirit in the 9th round (168th overall) during 2013, split time in the Ontario Hockey League with the Saginaw Spirit and Peterborough Petes from 2014-2016, scoring three goals and seven points through fifty eight career games along with picking up thirty two penalty minutes.
“We’re looking to provide a fresh start for Adam and his family with the Soo Thunderbirds,” said T-Birds general manager Jamie Henderson. “He is a player I got to know this past Summer who worked extremely hard. We just want Adam to come in and rekindle his passion for the game, have fun with this great group we have and continue to develop his skills. We have a really strong team and Adam is a player who can help us down the stretch as the games become more competitive and physical.”
During 2011-2012, McPhail scored forty six goals and sixty nine assists through thirty eight games with the Soo Thunder Bantam AAA before recording seventy four points through sixty games with the Soo Thunder Minor Midget AAA team during 2012-2013. He also had thirty three points through twenty five games with the AHMPL’s Waterloo Wolves Midget AAA club during 2013-2014.
With the addition of McPhail, the Soo Thunderbirds roster now has a total of seven Ontario Hockey League draft picks, as he joins Jaren Bellini (Soo Greyhounds), Zachary Senecal (Oshawa Generals) Jake Behse (Soo Greyhounds), Connor Ryckman (Barrie Colts), Mike Caruso (Peterborough Petes) and Matt Busby (Windsor Spitfires).
