T-Birds Blank Beavers

Heading into Wednesday’s contest with seven straight wins and moving up to seventh spot in the CJHL rankings, the Soo Thunderbirds took on the Blind River Beavers in their fourth meeting of the season at the Essar Centre.

Following a 9-1 victory in Blind River last Wednesday, the Soo Thunderbirds scored nine times against them for the second straight game as they defeated them by a 9-0 score.

T-Birds goaltender Nathan Warren made 15 stops for his first NOJHL shutout.

“It feels good and it was a full team effort today,” said Warren. “It’s nice to get a full outcome like that.”

This also marked Warren’s fifth straight victory following a 7-1 win over Cochrane back on October 11th in a battle for first.

“That game really showed what kind of team we have,” continued the overage goalie. “It showed what we’re made of and it really set the bar for us.”

T-Birds defenceman Caleb Boman had his second career multi goal game with two goals and an assist while Joey Miller also had a three point night with a goal and two helpers. Matt Caruso, who hasn’t scored in six games got his second of the season and set up another while Matt Pinder had a three point night with a trio of helpers. Brett Jeffries had a shorthanded goal for the Soo while other single markers went to Jaren Bellini, Drake Pilon, Mark Tassone and Zach Senecal. Matt Busby set up two goals while single assists went to Brandon Grandinetti, Matt Mitchell and Darian Pilon.

Beavers goalie Martin Miloslavich gave up 3 goals on 12 shots before being replaced by Maxwell Barr, who gave up 6 goals on 28 shots.

The T-Birds are back in action on Sunday, October 25th at 3:00 p.m. versus Kirkland Lake at the Essar Centre.
