T-Birds Blanked By Beavers

By Matt Stefano

After beating the Elliot Lake Wildcats 4-1 on Friday night at Centennial Arena, the Soo Thunderbirds were looking to make it a lucky seven straight wins in Blind River on Saturday night.

64 shots on net for the T-Birds didn’t do the trick though, as they fell to the Blind River Beavers by a 1-0 score.

Echo Bay, Ontario native Max Khull had his 10th goal of the season on the power play at 15:27 into the third from Ted Davis which proved to be the game winner for the Beavers.

Brandon Gordon made 11 stops for the T-Birds while Beavers goaltender Matt Blatenberger turned aside all 64 shots directed his way to pick up his first shutout of the season.

The Thunderbirds will now return home on Wedneaday, December 9th, when they take on the Rayside Balfour Canadians at 7:00 p.m. from the Essar Centre.

ALUMNI NOTE:

On Sarurday night, Soo Greyhounds forward Boris Katchouk scored his 10th goal of the season in a 5-4 overtime win against the Oshawa Generals and became the first T-Bird alumni to hit the 10 goal plateau in his OHL rookie season since Matt Caria (Toronto St. Michael’s Majors), Matt Dias (Sudbury Wolves) and Zack Torquato (Saginaw Spirit) all did back in 2005-2006.
