T-Birds fall 3-1 to Eagles

After starting the year 2017 with a 5-2 victory over the Soo Eagles Friday night at the Essar Centre, the T-Birds were in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan Saturday night for the second game of a home and home series against the Eagles.

The T-Birds, who have yet to win this season on Pullar Stadium ice, fell 3-1 to the Soo Eagles.

All the goals by both teams were scored in the second period Saturday night.

T-Birds captain Matt Caruso, who was coming off a two goal performance one night ago, had a power play goal for the Soo.

Jake Behse and Ryan Waterhouse had an assist each for the T-Birds.

William Casey had a goal and an assist for the Eagles while Chris Murphy also had a two point night with a pair of assists.

Jake Saxton and Nate Harris had the other goals for the Eagles while Jacob Palmerio, Adam Ostrowski and Rhett Rampinelli chipped in with one assist each.

Kade Phipps made 36 saves for the Eagles win and was named first star of the game.

T-Birds goaltender Brandon Gordon, who turned 20 years old on Saturday, gave up 3 goals on 38 shots in the loss, but was still named third star of the game.

Next action for the T-Birds will be Sunday, January 8th at 2:00 p.m. against the Rayside Balfour Canadians and will also be a battle of the top two teams in the West Division.

All Sault Minor hockey players will get into the game for free if they wear their team jersey or jacket.
