T-Birds go 0 for 3 this weekend

Heading into Sunday afternoon’s action in Timmins, the Soo Thunderbirds were looking to close out Thanksgiving weekend with a victory after dropping 5-1 in Cochrane on Friday night followed by a 6-2 loss in Iroquois Falls on Saturday.

The T-Birds, who were looking to snap a two game losing streak, ended up getting crushed by the Timmins Rock by a score of 8-1 at McIntyre Arena.

Nick Hautanen, Stewart Parnell and Cole Gilligan led the way offensively for the Rock with a goal and two helpers while Marcus Blackned found the back of the net twice, including once on the power play.

Jacob Shankar, Cory Sprague and Bain Cunningham had a pair of assists each.

Jordan Rendle had a pair of power play goals while Tyler Romain also scored once on the power play along with setting up another.

Jared Hester and Wayne Mathieu recorded an assist each.

Rookie forward Keenan Eddy had the lone goal for the T-Birds with assists going to Keegan Stevenson and Mike Winn.

Brandon Gordon gave up 8 goals on 30 shots for the T-Birds loss while Caleb Barris was named first star of the game with a 34 save performance for the Rock.

The T-Birds, who have lost their third straight game on Sunday afternoon, have not lost three straight games since the 2013-2014 season.

The T-Birds will be back in action on Tuesday, October 11th against Elliot Lake Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. from Countryside S. C.
