Following a 4-1 victory over the Iroquois Falls Eskis at Jus Jordan Arena on Saturday night, the Soo Thunderbirds were back in action on Sunday afternoon to take on the Timmins Rock at McIntyre Arena.
The Rock headed into today’s action unbeaten in three games while the T-Birds were looking to win their second straight.
He scored 19 goals one season ago, and today Matt Pinder extended his goal scoring streak to eight games with his 9th of the season at 7:44 into the first to put the Soo up 1-0 through one.
Captain Brett Jeffries made it 2-0 T-Birds at 15:14 into the second, before Joey Miller’s shorthanded goal forty seconds later from Matt Pinder made it 3-0. At the 18:03 mark of the second, it would be Soo Greyhounds 2013 5th rounder Jake Behse getting his 1st NOJHL goal from Mark Tassone to put the Soo up 4-0 after two.
Jaren Bellini’s 4th of the season from Matt Busby made it a 5-0 game at 9:08 of the third. Devin Panzeca’s goal from Jordan Rendle and Jared Hester cut the T-Birds lead to 5-1 at 12:54. A goal by Zachary Kercz from Ryan Theriault at 14:09 cut the T-Birds lead to three goals but the Soo went on to a 5-2 victory over the Timmins Rock and ended the month of September with a 7-1 record.
Nathan Warren made 30 saves for the T-Birds victory.
The T-Birds will be in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan on Friday, October 2nd to take on the Soo Eagles at 7:30 p.m. from the Pullar Stadium.
