T-Birds sign Boudreau

By Matt Stefano

As the Soo Thunderbirds get set to prepare for their road game tonight in Blind River, the club has announced today that they have added another defenceman to their roster.

Today, the T-Birds have signed free agent defenceman and Raleigh, North Carolina native Tyler Boudreau.

“I’m really excited to be in the Soo and have the opportunity to play for the Soo Thunderbirds,” Boudreau said. “I can’t wait to join the team and play in front of their great fans.”

Boudreau, who is a 2003-birth-year defenceman, previously signed this past summer with the SIJHL’s Estevan Bruins for this season, but ended up being released by them following preseason action.

Prior to this season, the 5-foot-11 and 185 pound blueliner spent last season with the Northwood School Huskies Prep team in the USHS-Prep, where he had 0 goals and 0 points in 38 regular season games.

“Tyler had a really strong camp in Estevan, but unfortunately he was caught up behind alot of 2002-birth-year players and was looking for an opportunity,” said Soo Thunderbirds assistant coach and general manager Jamie Henderson. “We are looking to continue to add to our depth and Tyler should bring some stability to our young backend.”

Boudreau, who is from Raleigh, North Carolina, also lives in the same city that the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes play in.

“I’m originally from Edmonton and I have been a lifetime fan of the Edmonton Oilers,” Boudreau said. “That being said, I have been able to watch the Carolina Hurricanes for many years and my favourite Hurricane player is Jacob Slavin, because he plays the game the right way and he is one of the best shutdown defensemen in the NHL.”

NOTE

Boudreau will be in the T-Birds lineup tonight for their 7:00 p.m. game in Blind River.
