T-Birds sweep series vs Eagles

With the Soo Thunderbirds up 3-0 in the NOJHL’s West Division semifinal series against their cross border rivals, the Soo Eagles, the T-Birds were looking to sweep the series on Friday night in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

After blanking the Eagles 1-0 in game three back on Wednesday night, Connor Ryckman made twenty saves for his third consecutive shutout of the postseason on Friday as the T-Birds beat the Soo Eagles 2-0 at the Pullar Stadium and have swept the West Division semifinal series in four straight.

T-Birds rookie forward Drake Pilon led the way offensively with a goal (shorthanded) and an assist on the night.

Overage forward Joey Miller had the other goal for the T-Birds while defencemen Matt Busby and Caleb Boman got on the scoresheet with an assist each.

Eagles goalie Jack Deines gave up two goals on thirty eight shots.

The T-Birds, who outscored the Soo Eagles 18-3 overall in the series, were led in points by defenceman Brandon Grandinetti, who had five assists.

On Friday night, former Soo Thunderbird and current Soo Greyhounds forward Boris Katchouk scored his first career Ontario Hockey League playoff goal in a 6-3 game one victory over the Sarnia Sting.
