With summer prospects camp getting set to wind down, the Soo Thunderbirds Junior A hockey club is getting set to hold their 2016 training camp at the John Rhodes Community Centre from August 19th-21st.
The T-Birds, who are preparing for their 18th season in the NOJHL, have won a total of four Copeland Cup McNamara Trophies in 2009, 2012, 2015 & 2016 and have won two Dudley Hewitt Cup titles in 2012 & 2015.
Former T-Birds who are currently playing in the Ontario Hockey League, include Medric Mercier (Soo Greyhounds), Mario Culina (Windsor Spitfires), Nick Pastorious (Niagara IceDogs), Nick
Sicoly (Guelph Storm), and Boris Katchouk (Soo Greyhounds).
Katchouk was also drafted by the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightening in the 2nd round (44th overall) this past June.
With several spots up for grabs on this year’s roster, cost for training camp is $125.00 and permission to skate slips must be brought to the rink if they are needed.
Training camp dates & times:
Friday, August 19th
Registration at 6:00 p.m.
Team Black vs Team Red scrimmage from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Saturday, August 20th
First scrimmage from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Second scrimmage from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Sunday, August 21st
Final scrimmage from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
