The Soo Thunderbirds have announced today that they have added a blueliner to their 2020-2021 roster.

The club has acquired 2001 birth year defenceman Cameron Dutkiewicz from the CCHL2’s Renfrew Timberwolves in exchange for a player development fee.

Dutkiewicz, who stands 6’0 and weighs 191 pounds, scored 4 times and set up 11 others in 40 games last season with the Timberwolves.

Prior to joining the Timberwolves in 2019-2020, the Timmins, Ontario native spent the 2018-2019 season with his hometown Timmins Majors in the Great North Midget League, where he served as the club’s assistant captain and finished tied for first in team scoring with 7 goals and 21 points in 35 games.

He also led all Major players in assists that season with 14.

During the 2018-2019 season, Dutkiewicz also played as an affiliate player with the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Timmins Rock.

The Timmins, Ontario native played in one regular season game with his hometown Rock, before suiting up for a pair of games with them during 2019 postseason, where he recorded one assist.

“Defensemen like Cam don’t become available that often and we’re excited that he’ll be patrolling the blueline for us this season. He defends his zone well and will contribute offensively,” said Thunderbirds general manager Trev Zachary.
