From Sioux Lookout to Sault Ste. Marie!

The Soo Thunderbirds have announced today that they have acquired forward Matt Spence from the Sioux Lookout Bombers in exchange for a player development fee.

Spence, who is a 2003-birth-year forward, spent last season with the MJAHL’s Grand Falls Rapids, where he recorded 0 goals and 2 assists in 28 regular season games.

“We are excited to welcome Matt and his family to the Thunderbirds,” said Soo Thunderbirds assistant coach and general manager Jamie Henderson. “Matt spent last season playing in a really good league against strong opponents and will bring some valuable experience and a string of work ethic to our group. Most importantly, Matt is really excited to be a Thunderbird!”

Following his season with the Rapids, the 5’10 and 178 pound forward was then traded to the SIJHL’s Sioux Lookout Bombers, before having his rights traded to the Soo Thunderbirds.

“I’m really excited to be apart of a well known organization like the Thunderbirds, and I’m looking forward to being a big part on helping bring home a second straight Copeland Cup McNamara Trophy,” Spence said.”
