After dropping a 4-2 decision to the Powassan Voodoos on Tuesday afternoon in Day 1 of the 3rd Annual NOJHL Showcase in Sudbury, the Soo Thunderbirds were looking to get back on the winning track on Wednesday night as they took on the defending NOJHL champions, the Cochrane Crunch.
The Thunderbirds picked up a win in the second and final day of the NOJHL Showcase as they defeated the Crunch by a score of 4-3 in a shootout at the Countryside Sports Complex in Sudbury.
Forward Lucas Theriault, who had one goal and one assist on Wednesday night, also scored the shootout winning goal for the Thunderbirds.
Noah Boman also had a two point night for the Thunderbirds with a goal and an assist while Tyler Malpass also got on the scoresheet with one goal.
Defencemen Jonathan Mackin and Ryan Lawrence had an assist each for the Thunderbirds.
Baldino Aiello led the way offensively for the Crunch with a shorthanded goal and an assist while Owen Perala and Tristan Taillefer had a goal each.
Ethan Emmanuel and Sean Meetsma had an assist each for the Crunch.
Crunch goaltender Shayne Battler made 29 saves in the loss while Thunderbirds rookie netminder Colin Ahern made 31 stops for the victory.
The Thunderbirds will return to the John Rhodes Community Centre this Saturday, when they take on the Rayside Balfour Canadians at 7:00 p.m.
