Thunderbirds double up Crunch

After dropping a 3-0 decision to the Hearst Lumberjacks on Friday night in Hearst, the Soo Thunderbirds were back in action twenty four hours later as they were in Cochrane to take on the Crunch.

The last time the Thunderbirds and Crunch met, was back on October 14th, when the Crunch defeated the Thunderbirds 6-4 at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

On Saturday night, it would be the Thunderbirds scoring six times as they doubled up the Crunch by a score of 6-3 at the Tim Horton Event Centre.

Matthew Bazarin, Tyler Malpass, Noah Boman, Nick Smith, Lucas Theriault and Avery Rebek all had a goal and an assist each for the Thunderbirds.

Smith and Theriault’s goals were both scored on the power play.

Steven Bellini, who was named the NOJHL’s Defenceman of the Month for October, set up two goals while Thunderbirds captain Kaidan McDonald chipped in with one assist.

Caleb Dolman, Steven Cope and Trent Grimshaw had the goals for the Crunch.

Justin Bofshever had two assists for the Crunch while Zach Hayes, Tristan Taillefer, Austin Heidt and Baldino Aeillo all had one assist each.

Crunch goaltender Zach Wickson gave up three goals on fifteen shots, before being replaced in net by Shayne Battler, who then gave up three goals on fifteen shots the rest of the way.

Thunderbirds rookie netminder Colin Ahern made twenty five saves for the victory.

The Thunderbirds will close out their three-game road trip on Sunday afternoon as they will be in Timmins to take on the Rock.

Puck drop is set for 2:00 p.m. at McIntyre Arena.
