Thunderbirds edge Eagles 3-1

After defeating the Blind River Beavers by a score of 5-2 this past Monday night in Blind River, the Soo Thunderbirds were back in action on Friday night as they made the trip to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to take on the Soo Eagles.

Friday night’s game also marked the 100th career game for Thunderbirds defenceman Steven Bellini.

Bellini and the Thunderbirds picked up win No. 37 on the season on Friday night in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, as they defeated the Soo Eagles by a score of 3-1 at Pullar Stadium.

Matthew Bazarin (power play), Max Techel (game winner) and Spencer Van Tiem (empty net) had the goals for the Thunderbirds while Steven Bellini, Nick Smith, Cam Findlay and Brendan Miller all chipped in with one assist each.

Charley Hanewall had the lone goal for the Eagles at the 13:53 mark of the first period, with assists going to George Orfanos and Hayden Clark.

Eagles goaltender Shane Brancato gave up two goals on thirty two shots in the loss while Thunderbirds rookie netminder Colin Ahern made twenty six stops for the victory.

Next action for the Thunderbirds will be on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., when they visit Blind River to take on the Beavers at the Blind River Community Centre.

NOTE

On Wednesday, the NOJHL announced the make up date for the Thunderbirds February 4th game in Blind River, which was postponed due to inclement weather.

That road game will now be played on March 6th at the Blind River Community Centre, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
