Thunderbirds edge Eagles in opening game of the preseason

After concluding training camp at the John Rhodes Community Centre on Wednesday, the Soo Thunderbirds kicked off their 2018 preseason on Thursday evening in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan as they took on the Soo Eagles at Big Bear Arena.

After falling behind 1-0 early in the first period, the Thunderbirds scored three unanswered goals, including two in the third to go on to defeat the Soo Eagles by a score of 3-1.

Brendan Miller (power play), Ryan Lawrence and Nick Smith had the goals for the Thunderbirds while Nolan Ford, Nate Medaglia and Cole Rickman had an assist each.

Ryan Dacks (power play) had the lone goal for the Eagles with assists going to Nathan Brown and Riley Jensen.

Caleb Saver gave up 3 goals on 23 shots in the Eagles loss.

William Anderson was named first star of the game after making 30 saves for the Thunderbirds victory.

The Thunderbirds will be in action for their final game of the preseason on Friday night at 8:00 p.m. for a rematch against the Soo Eagles at the John Rhodes Community Centre.
