Thunderbirds fall in overtime to Eagles

After defeating the French River Rapids by a score of 2-1 in overtime last Saturday night at the John Rhodes Community Centre, the Soo Thunderbirds hit the road on Friday night for their final road trip of 2019 as they were in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to take on the Soo Eagles.

Friday night’s game also marked the debut of newly acquired defenceman Jordan Broome, who came over to the Thunderbirds in a trade with the PJHL’s Styner Siskins back on Wednesday.

The Thunderbirds picked up one point in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan on Friday evening as they drooped a 3-2 decision in overtime to the Soo Eagles at Pullar Stadium.

Eagles defenceman Malik Ali had the overtime goal and and set up another for a two point night.

George Orfanos (shorthanded) and Caleb Wood had the other goals for the Eagles while Joel Brandinger, Dominic Skrelja, Ryan Dacks and Nolan Dresch had one assist each.

Rylan Clemons and Tyler Savard had a goal and an assist each for the Thunderbirds while Jake Kovacs also had a two point night, setting up two goals.

Thunderbirds goaltender Dakota Meyer gave up three goals on forty six shots in the loss while Eagles netminder Shane Brancato made thirty one saves for the victory.

The Thunderbirds will now play their final game of 2019 on Sunday afternoon when they visit Espanola to take on the Express.

Puck drop is set for 4:00 p.m. at the Espanola Regional Recreation Complex.
