Thunderbirds get blanked by Rock

By Matt Stefano

After doubling up the Cochrane Crunch 6-3 on Saturday night at the Tim Horton Event Centre in Cochrane, the Soo Thunderbirds were looking to extend their winning streak to two games less than twenty four hours later as they were in Timmins to take on the Rock.

Sunday afternoon’s game was also the Thunderbirds third game of their three-game road trip.

The Thunderbirds concluded their three-game road trip with a loss on Sunday afternoon as they dropped a 1-0 decision to the Rock at McIntyre Arena.

It was also the second time in three games that the Thunderbirds lost by a shutout.

Austin Holmes power play goal at the 11:43 mark of the second, proved to be the game winner.

Matt Capisciolto and Riley Brousseau had the assists on what would be Holmes first goal of the season.

Colin Ahern gave up one goal on twenty six shots in the Thunderbirds loss while Rock goaltender Tyler Masternak made eighteen saves for his fourth shutout of the season.

The Thunderbirds will be back on John Rhodes ice this Saturday at 7:00 p.m., when they take on the Rayside Balfour Canadians.
