Thunderbirds’ Malek heading to NCAA D-III Concordia-Wisconsin

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League has had another player commit to a NCAA Division-III program in the U.S., as Soo Thunderbirds forward Andrew Malek will be off to Concordia University of Wisconsin in the fall.

The 20-year-old Cudahy, Wis., product played the first part of the 2020-21 campaign with the Blind River Beavers before being acquired by the Thunderbirds when league play resumed back in February.

In 65 career NOJHL contests, Malek scored 21 times and doled out 13 assists for 34 points.

Three of his tallies were game-winners and he concluded his time in the league with points in three straight outings as well as etching his name on the game sheet in five of his final six match-ups.

Also, Sault Ste. Marie went 5-0-1 in games in which he picked up at least one point.

Based in Mequon, Wis., the Concordia Falcons are members of the 11-school Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.
