He started his rookie season this year in Elliot Lake, and now he’s coming to play for the Soo!

The Soo Thunderbirds have announced on Monday that they have picked up 2004-birth-year netminder Nolan Chartrand as a free agent from the Elliot Lake Red Wings.

“It feels great to join the Thunderbirds,” Chartrand said. “The Thunderbirds are a well established team with a great staff.”

In eleven games played with the Red Wings this season, the Kitchener, Ontario native had a record of 4 wins and 7 losses, and posted a 3.77 goals against average along with a .900 save percentage.

“My time in Elliot Lake was fantastic,” Chartrand said. “The town, fans and families were great to me. I was able to get a lot of hard work in and work on all aspects of my game.”

Chartrand, who stands 6’3 and weighs 193 pounds, was also drafted in the 7th round (130th overall) by the Barrie Colts in the 2020 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection.

“Getting drafted by the Barrie Colts was very exciting and an incredible accomplishment that allowed me to get one step closer to my goal of becoming professional,” Chartrand said. “I’m a very hard working goalie and I’m dedicated both on and off the ice. I will give it my all each and everyday.”
