Training camp is officially in the books, but the signings are still coming in for the Soo Thunderbirds.

The Soo Thunderbirds announced on Sunday that they have signed 2004-birth-year defenceman Charlie Fowler for the 2022-2023 season.

“I’m beyond excited to have signed with the Thunderbirds,” Fowler said. “I’ve heard so many great things about the team and organization and I’m looking forward to being a part of such a successful team.”

Fowler, who is from Innisfil, Ontario, spent last season with the Barrie Jr. Colts, where he had 0 goals and finished first in team assists with 24 through 46 games.

Last season, the 18-year-old also served as the Colts team captain.

“We are happy to welcome Charlie and his family to the program,” said Soo Thunderbirds assistant coach and general manager Jamie Henderson. “We are also adding an excellent young man who has been a captain the previous two seasons with his Under-18 team.”

Fowler, who is the first player to sign with the Thunderbirds following their training camp, stands 6’0 inches tall and weighs 185 pounds.
