Thunderbirds snap three game losing streak

After dropping a 3-1 decision to the Rayside Balfour Canadians this past Wednesday night in the Soo, the Soo Thunderbirds were back on the road on Saturday night as they were in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan for the first game of a home and home series against the Soo Eagles.

The Thunderbirds, who entered Saturday night’s game with a record of 2-3, were also looking to snap a three game losing streak.

The Thunderbirds improved their record to 3-3 on Saturday night in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan as they edged the Soo Eagles by a score of 3-2 at the Pullar Stadium.

Forward Nick Smith led the way offensively for the Thunderbirds with a pair of assists.

Cooper Smyl, Will Josephson and Matthew Bazarin had the goals for the Thunderbirds while Nolan Ford also got on the scoresheet with one assist.

Caleb Wood and Dominic Skrelja had the goals for the Eagles while Richard Boulware, Hayden Clark and Raf Praysner had an assist each.

Eagles goaltender Shane Brancato gave up 3 goals on 33 shots in the loss while Thunderbirds netminder Colin Ahern was named first star of the game, making 33 saves for the victory.

The Thunderbirds will be back in action on Sunday night at 7:00 p.m. at the John Rhodes for a rematch against the Eagles.
